the casawara

about the casawara

'The Governor's House is a very fine one, surrounded by very excellent walks and planting; - there are a great collection of Birds and wild beasts that I had never seen before in any other Country, wild African Buffaloe; the Zebra, or Queen's Ass; the Casawara'

Extracted from the diary of the travels of Lachlan Maquarie 1788 (during his stay in Cape Town)

The casawara, or cassowary, is a colourful and unusual creature - part peacock and part ostrich - definitely not he kind of bird you would expect to find nesting in Wiltshire

At our shop, which shares its name with the bird, we aim to provide a colourful and unusual range of goods that you would be unlikely to find in the local town centres
